But the problem with the movie is it’s unrealistic action scenes ,whose lack of believability largely affects the effectiveness of the other part of the narratives which are canned better. The flashback scenes are also told with flair with Mammoottty looking younger and stylish in different looks.

The former half of the movie which takes a different buildup of the lead character is impressive. Clearly meant to satisfy the fans of Mammootty, the fast-paced flick but goes for over the top action and easy twists and climax to spoil the plot. Presented by debutante Ajai Vasudev, the movie but starts off in a different manner than these prototypes but graduate soon into the similar lines of mass thrillers. Shylock has also been released in Tamil as Kuberan with the same cast.Coming after Rajamanikyam, and Pokkiriraja is another film in the same vein in the title ‘Rajadhiraja’. Shajon, Siddique, Baiju Santhosh, John Vijay, Hareesh Kanaran and others have done justice to their roles. Meena, the popular South Indian actress, too makes a comeback after two years. The veteran actor has delivered an electrifying performance in Shylock, which also marks his first on-screen collaboration with popular Tamil actor Rajkiran. Mammootty impresses with his punches and kicks, with Gopi Sundar's brilliant background score to boot. The action sequences choreographed by Anl Arasu are a visual treat. The latter half, in fact, restricts the flow of the film as emotions take centre-stage and the pace and energy of the film drop. While the first half is filled with punch dialogues and mass scenes, the second half of the film focuses on the back story and ends as a revenge drama. One also wishes they would have come up with more original one-liners for Boss, along with a less-cliched storyline. Jointly scripted by newcomers Aneesh Hameed and Bibin Mohan, Shylock has comedy, thrills and the revenge elements in it, but the mix isn't perfect. The superstar's stylish appearance and mannerism, and his punch dialogues, create a mass aura around the 'Boss' character.
